Palpable pathologic lymph nodes are most often appreciated in the head/neck, axilla, or inguinal regions. Lymph nodes of concern are typically > 1cm, enlarging, multiple, stuck together. Regional enlargement may reflect local processes drained by those nodes (e.g. infection, cancer). Generalized adenopathy suggests a more global process (e.g. lymphoma, systemic infection, autoimmune process, med rxn, etc.). Many lymph node group (intrabdominal, retroperitoneal, throacic) are not accessible on exam.
