Risk Factors

  • 2-8w after exposure to the culprit medication

Symptoms

  • Severe systemic and cutaneous reaction to a medication, eruption occurs 2-8w after exposure
  • Can cause severe dysfxn in liver, kidneys, lungs, GI tract, heart, endocrine systems and progresses rapidly
  • Fever, chills, malaise, adenopathy
  • Rare mucosal involvement

Physical Exam Findings

  • Adenopathy
  • Erythematous patches that quickly become confluent, affecting large areas of body
  • Edematous and sometime purpuric
  • Can have blisters and pustules
