Etiology

  • 90% of lymphomas
  • Many different types (B & T cell)
  • Originates in lymph tissue
  • Significant variability in how aggressive they may be|

Risk Factors

  • Age > 60
  • Hx hiv + confers markedly increased risk aggressive NHL
  • Immunosupression after organ transplant→ increased risk NHL
  • EBV→ Burkitts in Africa
  • H pylori→ stomach MALT

Symptoms

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Sweats
  • Fatigue
  • Weight loss
  • Diarrhea
  • Other symptoms based on organ system involved

Physical Exam Findings

  • Splenomegaly
  • Progressive, painless, generalized adenopathy
  • Extra-nodal disease can involve almost any organ system
