- Thrombotic event occurring in pre-existing atherosclerotic vessel
- Typical cardiovascular risk factors including: known atherosclerosis
- Consider hypercoaguable states (e.g. anti-phospholipid antibody) if < 50, no RFs, and/or recurrent events
- Abrupt and discrete loss of neurological function based on territory of brain that's affected
