Risk Factors

  • Dm
  • Htn
  • Hyperlipidemia
  • Smoking
  • Early fam hx
  • Known atherosclerosis

Symptoms

  • N
  • V
  • Sweating
  • Acute, tearing-type chest pain--> radiating towards back
  • Can have arm pain if perfusion to extremity affected, stroke if affects carotids/brain perfusion, abdominal or leg pain if perfusion to intestines or lower extremities affected
  • SOB, hypotension if dissection involves aortic valve, causes pericardial effusion

Physical Exam Findings

  • Asymmetry in pulse and BP
  • Pulse deficits in affected limbs
  • Neuro deficits if involves carotids/vertebrals
