Risk Factors

  • May have structural abnormality in lobe that is site of origin for seizure

Symptoms

  • Consciousness not impaired, though can have brief confusion w/full recovery
  • Tend to be recurrent
  • Observed abnormalities related to area of brain affected
  • Parietal lobs: focal numbness, tingling
  • Occipital lobe: visual disturbances
  • Frontal lobe: feeling like a wave moving thru head, arm/hand twitching
  • Temporal lobe: aura of rising epigastric discomfort/sensation, like a roller coaster, then brief sense anxiety/fear; Sometimes dry mouth

Physical Exam Findings

  • Observed abnormalities related to area of brain affected
  • Parietal lobs: focal numbness, tingling
  • Occipital lobe: visual disturbances
  • Frontal lobe: arm/hand twitching
  • Temporal lobe: sometimes dry mouth
