Risk Factors

  • Women > men
  • Ages 40-60

Symptoms

  • Acute headache if leaking; w/progression to altered level of consciousness
  • Other localizing sx if pushes on a nearby structure

Physical Exam Findings

  • Aneurysms can be asymptomatic, w/o findings (i.e. not ruptured)
  • Ordiscrete loss of function if compresses adjacent structures (e.g. posterior communicating artery aneurysm can compress CN3→ double vision, other findings)
  • Leak or rupture can range from severe pain to altered level of consciousness
