- Related to toxic effect of HIV itself
- Tracks w/low CD4 count and high VL
- Not on HAART, high VL, low CD4
- Cognition→ inattention, reduced conentration, slowed processing
- Motor→ slowed movement, clumsiness, ataxia
- Behavior→ ranges from apathetic/dulled to aggitated
- Progressive over time to severe impairment and death
- Some component reversible w/rx HAART
