Etiology

  • Viral infection secondary to Parvo B 19

Risk Factors

  • Most common ages 5-19

Symptoms

  • Acute fever, runny nose, headache
  • Slapped cheek rash
  • Also rash on arms, soles, palms
  • Joint pain and swelling
  • Fatigue - can cause acute hypoproliferative anemia

Physical Exam Findings

  • Febrile, runny nose, URI sx
  • Skin eruption on face w/slapped cheek (bright red) appearance
  • Lacy red rash on arms, legs; sometimes soles, palms
  • Sometimes symmetric inflammatory arthritis can mimic RA
  • Can cause acute hypo-proliferative anemia
