- Staph, strep, oral flora; sometimes assoc w/obstructing stone
- Acute pain if infected and/or related to duct obstruction from stone
- Bilateral (and unvaccinated) if mumps, also testicular involvement
- Acute, tender, mass just anterior to the ears if infected, sometimes pus from parotid duct opening on inside of cheek
