- Isolated parathyroid adenoma (80-85%)
- 4 gland parathyroid hyperplasia (10-15%)
- Very rarely hyperparathyroid cancer
- MEN1 (rare): hyperparathyroidism, pancreas (gastrin, VIP, insulin) and pituitary (GH, Prolactin) producing tumors
- MEN2 (rare): medullary thyroid cancer, hyperparathyroidism and pheochromocytoma
- Usually slowly progressive and most are asymptomatic (identified by lab testing, w/mildl elevations)
- Associated with fractures, renal stones, fatigue, confusion, weakness
- Higher risks with higher ca2+
- Elevated PTH (> 65ng/dl)
- Elevated calcium, low phosphorous; Adjust for low albumin: .8x(4-albumin) + Serum Ca2+
