- Toxin produced by anaerobic gram positive rod
- Antibiotic associated colitis
- Can occur after any abx, though most notorious is clindamycin or broad spectrum agents
- Also passed to patients in hospital via healthcare workers
- Prior history of c dif
- Diarrhea, typically > 2x/day
- Severe pain and sepsis if advanced
- Sometimes blood in stool
- May have generalized abd pain
- Sometimes distention
- With severe disease--> toxic megacolon--> very ill
