Symptoms: As gets larger, more likely to cause SOB/DOE. Sx also affected by how rapidly it develops, underlying cause and presence of co-morbid illness. PE: Decreased breath sounds over effusion, dullness to percussion, diminished fremitus. Need to distinguish between exudative & transudative effusion by sampling fluid.
