Etiology

  • Diabetes is the most common cause of chronic renal disease
  • Typically causes glomerular disease w/non-nephrotic range proteinuria
  • Often occurs in concert w/hypertensive nephrosclerosis

Symptoms

  • Edema
  • Slowly progressive fatigue
  • DM also contributed to non-healing wounds, visual loss, claudication, angina/mi, stroke

Physical Exam Findings

  • Edema
  • Hypertension
  • Retinopathy
  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Diminished peripheral pulses
