Etiology

  • Testicular infection→ mumps
  • Testicular torsion, trauma, cancer, undescended testes, or other reason for testicular death
  • Past chemotherapy, w/prolonged direct effects on testicles
  • Genetic disorders→ Prader-Willi Syndrome, Klinefelter Syndrome

Symptoms

  • Fatigue
  • Infertility
  • Decreased libido
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Decreased strength

Physical Exam Findings

  • Sometimes small or absent testes
  • Findings vary w/degree of hypo testosterone and when it occurred: can have small stature, decreased muscle mass, diminished axillary/pubic/facial hair, small penis (if occurred pre-puberty)
  • Breast development
