- Autoimmune, w/genetic, infectious and unknown components

- Onset typically 20s-30s
- Back stiffness worse in AM
- Better with activity
- Progressively limited range of motion, and peripheral joint and multiple other systemic sx as noted below
- Sometimes swelling of fingers→ dactylitis, other joint pain, eye findings c/w uveitis
- Pain at tendon insertions→ enthesitis
