Risk Factors

  • Exposure to a medication known to cause vasculitis (many)
  • Penicillins, cephalosporins, allopurinol, dilantin, levimasole (used to cut cocaine), others

Symptoms

  • Acute
  • If ulcers/ischemia:painful distal extremities, in particular→ fingers, ears, nose
  • Can have systemic sx if affects multiple organs (e.g. kidneys)

Physical Exam Findings

  • Swelling
  • Pain
  • Distal necrosis
  • Decreased cap refill distally
  • Purpuric skin lesions (typically palpable)
