- While can be premature, typically around 36+ weeks gestation
- Waves of lower abdominal discomfort from contractions
- Gush of liquid with rupture of amniotic sac
- Time between contractions becomes shorter as delivery approaches
- No menstrual periods in preceding ~9 mos
- Large lower abdomen (potentially less obvious if very obese)
- Gravid uterus palpable on abdominal exam, bi-manual exam
- Cervical dilatation on speculum exam
