- Collection of blood outside of arteries or veins
- Patients taking anti-coagulants anti-platelet agents, or both
- Acute/sub-acute pain and swelling in affected area
- Rate of accumulation (and symptoms) depends on location, size/amount of bleeding, arterial v venous
- Pain and swelling over the affected area
- Degree of findings will vary based on depth and size of hematoma
- Sometimes echymosis or other evidence bleeding in the skin
- Sometimes inflammatory findings in the overlying skin
- Ultrasound and/or CT often helpful
