Etiology

  • Sudden cessation of opioids (heroin, morphine, fentanyl, other) after prolonged use

Risk Factors

  • Long term opioid use
  • Prior withdrawal

Symptoms

  • Abdominal pain
  • Agitation, confusion
  • Nausea, vomiting

Physical Exam Findings

  • Agitation
  • Tachycardia
  • Yawning
  • Dilated pupils
  • Goose bumps
