- Aside from primary colon cancers, other primary malignancies within the colon that can cause obstruction:
- Lymphoma (colon is rich in lymphatics)
- Melanoma - either known w/significant depth of invasion or unknown previously
- Direct extension from other pelvic tumors (bladder) - which would be unusual
- Metastatic disease spreading to the colon from elsewhere (rare)
- If primary lymphoma: fever, chills, weight loss, sweats, lymph nodes identifiable elsewhere
- Evidence of melanoma elsewhere (notorious for spreading to where it wants)
- Might have palpable mass
- Evidence lymph nodes, melanomatous lesions elsewhere
- CT scan of affected area
- Biopsy - typically via colonoscopy
