Etiology

  • Intra-cellular, gram negative rod

Risk Factors

  • Farmers, live stock handlers - as spread to humans from infected cattle, sheep and goats
  • Exposure to aerosolized fluids during work w/animals, during birthing
  • Rarely via consumption raw milk

Symptoms

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Severe ha
  • Myalgias
  • Malaise
  • Cough
  • Abd pain
  • Incubation 5d-2w
  • Many recover spont
  • Can cause pneumonia, hepatitis, myocarditis

Physical Exam Findings

  • Fever
  • Sometimes findings of pneumonia, hepatitis, chf
