Typhus (Scrub)

Etiology

  • Rickettsial infection spread via chiggers (mite larvae)

Risk Factors

  • Endemic in region from Pakistan to Japan to Australia

Symptoms

  • Incubation 1-2w
  • Non-specific f, c, ha, malaise, myalgias, rash
  • Can cause severe illness, death

Physical Exam Findings

  • Non-specific mac-pap rash
  • Primary lesion--> starts as bulla, becomes an ulcer, w/eschar developing over days
  • Sometimes adenopathy
