Etiology

  • Idiopathic d/o
  • Small-to-medium vessel vasculitis
  • W/high levels circulating and tissue invasive eosinophils

Risk Factors

  • Men=women

Symptoms

  • Progressive
  • F
  • C
  • Muscle aches
  • Heart failure
  • Adult onset asthma, cough & wheezing, nasal stuffiness→ w/resp sx usually ~2-10 y prior to systemic sx assoc w/eosinophilic deposition in target organs and vasculitis
  • In these later phases→ systemic sx including: sob from parenchymal lung involvement
  • Hematuria from renal involvement
  • Pericarditis and dysrhythmia w/cardiac involvement
  • Peripheral neuropathy related weakness, numbness

Physical Exam Findings

  • Wheezing
  • Skin findings of vasculitis: small, palapable purpura, don't blanch when compress them, can coalesce
  • Hematuria/renal involvement
  • Unexplained peripheral neuropathy decreased distal sensation, weakness, diminished reflexes
