Keratitis (corneal Infection)

Etiology

  • Can be bacterial; viral→ hsv, vzv; fungal; parasitic→ onchocerciasis

Risk Factors

  • Trauma and/or introduction of foreign body
  • Chemical exposure
  • Contact lens use

Symptoms

  • Acute
  • Painful
  • D/c
  • Unilateral visual loss

Physical Exam Findings

  • Diffusely red
  • Decreased acuity
  • Other findings of herpes zoster in v1 dermatome if from VZV
  • + corneal epithelial defect w/flourescein staining
