Etiology

  • Break in small vessel w/in conjunctiva
  • Usually spontaneous and idiopathic
  • Sometimes related to coughing, sneezing, valsalva, trauma
  • Rarely related to bleeding d/o, severe htn, anti-coagulant meds, or other systemic conditions

Symptoms

  • No d/c
  • No pain
  • No visual sx
  • Unilateral
  • Resolves over time

Physical Exam Findings

  • Hemorrhage outside the iris
