- Focal or diffuse lung damage from many causes creates dilated areas→ dont clear secretions well→ superimposed infxn→ acute/subacute sx
- Organisms: pseudomonas, strep, h flu, MAC, MTB, aspergillus, other
- Known bronchiectasis
- Prior lung infxn
- Chronic cough and sputum
- W/infxn→ fever, increased cough, purulent sputum, SOB, hemoptysis
- Tends to be recurrent
- Can take a long time to resolve
