Paget's Disease

Etiology

  • Disorder of inappropriate bone remodeling, leads to pain, weakened/bowed long bones, easy fracture, increased risk bone cancer

Risk Factors

  • > 40

Symptoms

  • Leg bowing
  • Slowly progressive multi-site bone pain
  • Many are asymptomatic
  • Common bones are skull, thorax and lumbar spine, femur
  • Pain is usually a progressive deep ache that can be worse at night
  • Increased risk fracture
  • Also hearing loss w/skull involvement
  • While typically chronic can have acute symptoms with fracture

Physical Exam Findings

  • Bowed legs
  • Hearing loss
