Etiology

  • Primary FSGS→ most common cause idiopathic nephrotic syndrome→ 30-50% of cases, particularly common in black adults
  • Secondary FSGS→ Hiv, obesity, heroin, other
  • Primary or secondary can progress to ESRD

Symptoms

  • Edema
  • Decline in GFR
  • Other symptoms can be related to primary process
  • Unexplained venous thrombosis

Physical Exam Findings

  • Htn
  • Edema
