Etiology

  • Non-atherosclerotic arteriolar disease linked to smoking, though precise etiology unknown

Risk Factors

  • Smoking
  • M > F
  • Age onset often 40s (can be older)

Symptoms

  • Non-healing, progressive, painful ulcers of hands, sometime feet
  • Affects veins as well, causing thrombophlebitis in some
  • Sometimes claudication if affects legs

Physical Exam Findings

  • Progressive ulcers
  • Can become gangresnous
  • Typically multiple digits, more than one extremity
  • Distal pulses (e.g. radial) typically palpable
