- Obstructing gall stone in common bile duct (typically originated in gall bladder)
- Cholesterol stones: Female, age > 40, obesity, Native American
- Bilibubin stones (uncommon) from processes that cause hemolysis (e.g. sickle cell disease)
- Can cause jaundice, chalky stools, dark urine - without other sx
- May also cause biliary colic (e.g. pain in RUQ that comes after meals, then abates spontaneously)
- Risk for cholangitis
- Ultrasound or CT
- Bilirubin maybe elevated, transaminases may be elevated
