- Acute twisting of fallopian tube and ovary, causing ischemia
- Ovarian mass (cyst, malignancy or benign tumor)
- Torsion can also occur w/normal ovaries
- Acute, severe lower abdomina/pelvic area pain
- May have similar/lesser pain episodes prior
- Patient in significant pain
- Pain on palpation of lower abdominal quadrant on affected side
- Bi-manual exam with pain on palpation adnexal area of affected side; might feel mass in that area
- Ultrasound most helpful, though can be detected by CT, MRI
