Lymphogranuloma Venereum (LGV)

Sites

  • Genital region, proctocolitis

Etiology

  • Caused by chlamydia trachomatis, serovar L

Risk Factors

  • HIV+
  • Spread by sexual contact
  • Increasingly common in US amongst MSM

Symptoms

  • Incubation 1-3 weeks
  • Painless papule or ulcer on penis/vagina/rectal area, then painful inguinal adenopathy
  • Proctocolitis: tenesmus, diarrhea, blood per rectum
  • Can have f, c, fatigue, other systemic sx

Physical Exam Findings

  • Initially painless papule, which might be missed; then painful inguinal adenopathy
  • Blood per rectum (rectal/sigmoid ulcers on endoscopy), rectal discharge
