Etiology

  • Colorless
  • Used in anti-freeze
  • Odorless and sweet tasting→ accidental ingestions in kids or purposeful in adults

Symptoms

  • + osmolar gap
  • Lower dose similar to ethanol
  • Higher dose n, v, confusion, kidney/liver dysfxn, death
  • Tachypnea from + AG metabolic acidosis

Physical Exam Findings

  • Euphoria
  • Aggitation
  • Ataxia
  • Slurred speech
  • Social disinhibition
  • Severe cases w/respiratory depression to coma
